Considering its small town status, employment options in this Cleveland suburb are surprisingly bright. Progressive Insurance, the biggest employer in town, has called the village home since 1974. Named one of the top employers in the region by the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Progressive has more than 9,000 people working for it, which is more than twice the population of the town itself. As a bonus, employees praise the company’s flexibility and pay structure.

For people renting in Mayfield Village, Ohio who don’t mind a bit of a commute, the city of Cleveland offers a greater number of employment options. For example, Cleveland State University has positions available for academic faculty, as well as general staff positions.

Greenery and Recreation

After a long day at school or the office, residents may want a way to relax. Luckily, there are plenty of things to do in Mayfield Village. The village’s Department of Recreation oversees a number of seasonal activities for adults and children, including a volleyball league, youth sports teams, and a trip to see the Cleveland Cavaliers play.

A number of recreational facilities are underway in the village, too. One project that is currently under development is the Grove, an outdoor amphitheater. During the summer months, the Grove is the site of a number of free events, including plays, musical acts, and film screenings. In its first season during the summer of 2014, the Grove played host to a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival as well as a screening of the popular movie The Princess Bride.

Traveling Around

One great way to see all that the village has to offer is by traveling around on foot, along the Greenway Trail. The trail opened in the summer of 2014 and offers about 10 miles of walking paths through the town.If you are interested in traveling to Cleveland, the easiest way to travel is to drive your car along I-90. A less direct route sees you traveling along I-271 into the city.

Public transportation options are operated by the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA). The bus route that serves the village is Route 7, which will take you into Cleveland. Once in the city, you can get around via trains, including the Red Line, Blue Line and Waterfront Lines. A trolley route is also available. If your journey is taking you even further afield, the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport has flights that will take you to a number of places both in the U.S. and around the world.

Mayfield Village offers the best of both worlds to residents. It’s a small town with a lot of small town charm. And because Cleveland is less than a 20 minute drive, you’re never far from the conveniences of city life.
